Talented Tuesday #1: Kyla Roma

by Corinne on July 27, 2010

Creativity and inspiration are infinite on the internet if you enjoy research and love multi-tasking madness. I’ve kicked my super sleuth skills into high gear this week, since I’m participating in Kris Carr’s #NoTVfor30Days challenge (inspired by Rory Freedman’s blog).

Growing up, I was an every-other-weekend kid. I loved the Saturdays and Sundays I spent with my Pops at his assortment of apartments in Buffalo, NY. I would gather up the free-spirited fun he created and live off it during the weeks in between. When my parents split, my Dad went back to school for Computer Science just as the world wide web was catching on. I was captivated by the mystery and wonder held in a search engine. Google didn’t exist, so I used whatever search tool was popular in the nineties and scoured this new magical universe of information for the lyrics to Tori Amos songs and the script of Reality Bites. I’ve been addicted ever since.

Lately, I’ve tapped into a new set of creative web savvy ladies. One leads to the next and the next and so on. Their websites are packed with joy and reverence for everyday beauty. I’m totally in awe of them and I’m thankful they are out there. I’ll be sharing their talents here on Tuesdays in hopes that you might jump over to their website and capture a little magic for yourself!

Kyla Roma

Today’s inspirational lady is Kyla Roma. Her website is packed with yummy recipes (she’s vegetarian!), crafty goodness, gorgeous photos, and tons of smiling self-portraits that make you think you just might want to take one of yourself someday. Somehow, Kyla has created a web-world that feels like a shabby-chic living room where you’re having tea and chatting about her newest sparkly idea. Kyla has also started working with the boutique web design company, Freckled Nest. She’s working on my blog this fall and I can’t wait! You’ll find oodles of inspiration and links to other art-tastic trail blazers at both of their sites. Enjoy!

Mix Tape Monday #1

by Corinne on July 26, 2010

Mix tapes are close to my heart (as I’m sure they are for many people). How do teenagers express their love for a new crush these days?

Mix Tape Monday

By the time cassette tapes became obsolete, I had collected at least thirty mixes from my then boyfriend-now husband and I cherished each one. He has a knack for discovering amazing music and he had the patience and talent to create the perfect mix. In honor of this art form and in an effort to keep its magic alive, I thought I’d start Mix Tape Mondays.

If I made a mix at this very moment, here are some of the songs that would grace the track list:

-Tether by Sarah Harmer

-Florida by Patty Griffin

-Twenty Two Fourteen by The Album Leaf

-Track 4 by Sigur Ros

-Fresh Blood by The Eels

What would be on your mix tape?

P.S. I signed up for Susannah Conway’s “August Break” (it’s free!). If you love photography (no need to be a pro–I’m not!) and want a blog-writing break this summer you should check it out too!

Home is a Funny Word

I use the word “home” to describe many places. Of course, my house in Baltimore is one home. My in-law’s house in Rochester, NY is another. And I even find myself saying that I’m on my way “home” when I’m heading to the office in Woodstock. Steve and I don’t know where we’ll end up [...]

Photo Credit: Alan Cleaver Over the past two weeks, I’ve started waking up around 6AM, which gives me an extra hour and a half each morning. I’m tired, but hanging in there, hoping that I’ll be able to adjust and fall asleep earlier soon. When I was in high school and college, I would sleep [...]
