You know those times when suddenly you realize the corners of your mouth are turned up ever so slightly? These are some of my favorite moments. I’ll catch myself being happy and then I’ll be surprised by these simple little sources of happiness. The two pictured above are often culprits of subtle grins and chuckles (yes, I used the word “chuckles” because that’s the best word to describe the sound). If you squint, you’ll see that Thomas (culprit #1 on top) is feasting his eyes on a bird perched on one of our porch chairs. Sweet Pea is doing exactly what she’s always doing, lying down. I swear we do not over-feed this cat, she’s just naturally plump.
Steve and I set out for Neko Case after work this evening, but traffic stopped us from getting to Norfolk, VA in time (might I mention that this is our second attempt to see Neko Case?). Anyway, instead of spending many more hours in the car, we accepted defeat and made the best of it by going to DC. It was odd driving through Foggy Bottom, Dupont Circle, and Adams Morgan. I spent two years there and yet I feel like someone else lived through that period of time.
Since we weren’t planning on being back in Baltimore tonight or most of tomorrow, I feel like I’ve been given an extra day. It’s like waking up after setting the clocks back and realizing you have another hour to do whatever you please. The house is quiet and I could write until morning (well, later in the morning) if I wanted.
I’ve never wanted to be a photographer. Cameras just don’t appeal to me, but I’m having a lot of fun with my iPhone. I found this heart in the sidewalk a few feet from our house. I had never noticed it before. I’m noticing little things more. I like it. It makes the corners of my mouth turn up ever so slightly, sort of like they are right now.

I found my center, my purpose, and my heart through writing and I’m here to help you do the same. I work with entrepreneurs, authors, academics, and other driven individuals to help them find their voice on the page.
