Steve has been on a mini-tour with The Sweatshop Boys (see backstage pass!) since Monday. They played in Boston, Rochester, and Cedar Rapids. There were 900 peeps in the audience when they opened for Eve 6 on Friday! I’m so proud:) I decided to take advantage of the empty house and write during every waking moment I wasn’t at work (which is also in my house, so you can imagine the cabin fever). I broke the five day streak this afternoon when my pops took me out to dinner at Holy Frijoles (vegan burrito!). The adorable creatures below have been my constant companions.

Since I’m spending twelve hours or more at my desk each day, I decided to spruce it up a bit. Wrapping up my novel has led me to create a bunch of maps and time lines. I found this handy-dandy board in my closet, dusted it off and stole my favorite magnets from the fridge. No more clutter=more room for creativity and progress. My maps and outline are on display for easy reference and I’ve added a splash of inspiration to keep my spirits up during the wee morning hours. Lots of room for post-its too.

ps- A lady bug has been climbing my curtains throughout the week. I think she’s good luck.
pps- I love, love, love Scott Westerfeld’s novel, Uglies!

I found my center, my purpose, and my heart through writing and I’m here to help you do the same. I work with entrepreneurs, authors, academics, and other driven individuals to help them find their voice on the page.

Bliss is right!!!!! How wonderful to have some time alone.
I love the board. I keep a cork board for thumbnails of picture book dummies as well as a magnet board next to my desk. I’m constantly changing things out as my work changes.
Good luck with revisions!

Thanks, Sarah. Your website is magical! I loved reading your bio. After getting my Master’s degree, I went in another direction. I’m following my heart and sometimes it’s not easy. You’re an inspiration!
Wow! 900 people? That’s amazing!!!
I have issues with ladybugs, but I do think they’re good luck. Just not so much when they crawl on your face when you’re sleeping because your very first apartment is completely infested with them.
Infested with ladybugs?! That sounds a scene from a horror film.
Steve’s band rocked! I’m happy he’s home now:) We outlined the rest of my book last night and I’m a writing maniac! xoxo
Desk decoration is key. My dining room table doubles as my desk most of the time (what does that say about me, I wonder?), but I’ve been meaning to spruce up my desk space!
I move around the house a lot. A change of scenery is just what I need to spark creativity sometimes! It’s nice to spread everything out on the kitchen table too:)
looks like you’re really getting somewhere! i’ve been working at home all week and loving it…unfortunately the writing i’m doing isn’t as fun (a grant proposal). can’t wait to see your name in print!
Thanks, Kim! Working at home is great, isn’t it?
There is obviously a lot to know about this. I think you made some good points in Features also.
