Making Rules

by Corinne on October 1, 2009

I like rules. They are comforting. They feel like an old friend. But much like an old friend, you can get irritated with them. And sometimes you see them and they surprise you with something unique and wonderful that you wouldn’t have discovered alone. I make a lot of rules during the writing process. Recently, I decided to stop reading the thirty or so blogs I like to keep up with on a daily basis (659 unread blogs were waiting) to make more time for writing.

But a few things have distracted me this week and I haven’t done a heck of a lot of writing. I was feeling a little rebellious today and opened up my google reader. I read Jennifer Weiner’s recent blog about her work-in-progress and guess what happened? I was inspired to write. All the stress faded away and I felt called back to my story. So I turned on my special itunes mix that I’ve created for novel writing purposes and opened up my manuscript. Of course I had to blog about it first…but now it’s time to edit.

ps- I joined my writing group again!
