Flower City, Trains & Coffee

by Corinne on March 23, 2010

Steve and I took the train to BWI this past Friday and the trip was delightful. We are lucky enough to have a lightrail station only a few blocks from our home. I daydreamed while staring out the window, read Harry Potter (yes, I know I’m one of the last people to read this series and I’m loving book 1!) & I relaxed. The weekend in Rochester (aka Flower City) was a blur, but so much fun! Lots of catching up with friends and family at Boulder & Starry Nites cafes, dinner at Hogan’s Hideaway, a family get-together (which included much oohing and ahhhhing over our adorable baby niece) and I even squeezed in some reading & writing:) It was a challenge waking up at 4:30 AM to catch a flight back to Baltimore on Monday, but we made it!

There are two things that are making my Tuesday especially wonderful…

1- Steve and I visited Spro Coffee today! It opened last week on The Avenue (36th Street). I adore their coffee cups, which say “Spro – Project Hampden”. My rockstar/scientist husband informed me that the molecule on the cup (see above) is caffeine. Clever indeed. The coffee is the best I’ve ever tasted. It has to be experienced to be believed. It is a quaint & bright cafe filled with natural light (huge front window). I want one of those mugs. Did you see the little heart on the side? Love. In addition to this super discovery, Steve and I discussed some ideas for the sequel to my novel that is out on submission. I already have an outline, but the ideas were flowing out faster than I could write them down! I may start working on a few chapters. I’m loving my work-in-progress, but it would be nice to step away for a few days and work on something new:)

2-Tomorrow night I am going to see Charlaine Harris speak at Shippensburg University! I’ll share all the details in my next blog for any Harris book lovers out there. Anyone who has read my blog in the past knows that I am a huge fan. Her Sookie Stackhouse series has greatly inspired me as a writer. I love the fun and adventure she has created in Sookie’s world. Plus, I heart True Blood & all things Alan Ball. I hope she talks about the HBO series too!

More soon! I’m off to watch LOST. Time to find out the deal with Richard Alpert…

Ok, just direct messaged you on twitter about the query thing, not sure if I did it right. :)
And I SO love Ms. Harris. I missed hearing her speak a few months ago and still regret it… although she does live in the south part of my state. Maybe I could swing by her house. Wait, nope, that’s probably going too far. :)

I always love your photographs! So glad you enjoyed Spro. My friend Lindsay is a barista there. I tried them for the first time last week and LOVED it. Smoothest and most delicious coffee I’ve ever tasted. Love their brewing methods! Hope you are well. We need to catch up when things get a little less crazy!

Hi Sam!

Thanks so much for the photo love. I’m always honored when someone enjoys the pictures! Creating photo collages brings me such simple joy:) Spro seriously rocks. I don’t think I can give up coffee now that it is right down the street! I hope you are well and enjoying this beautiful day in Charm City. xo
