I love discovering treasures in the most unexpected places — like the alley I walked down today on my way to the post office. It would have been easy to drive, but the mile long walk helps me hit the reset button. Lately, I’ve become obsessed with my neighborhood’s alleyways. Sure, I could take the same route to the store or my favorite restaurant every time, but after a while you stop noticing things like the Christmas tree made from hubcaps or the punk rock skeleton flamingo that stands out from all the other plastic pink ones on our street.
One of the most fascinating aspects of writing fiction is that you’re creating something out of nothing and I hope that idea never loses its magic for me. While I flipped through my iPhone photos and saw the one above, I thought of the plot twists and character developments I find when I look somewhere other than the confines of my skull. It could be music, tv, a book packed with photos, or a conversation with Steve. (His ideas are amazing by the way. Why isn’t he writing a book? Oh yeah, he writes songs.) What I’m trying to say is that sometimes the best stuff comes from adventure, chance, facing fears, or just taking a different route to pick up a book of stamps.
I’ll hope you’ll try something different today and find inspiration in that moment.

I love finding unexpected things I’ve never noticed before! Always such a bright surprise to see something with new eyes! Thanks for the inspiration! XOXO Have a great weekend!
Your blog is a testament to how much you take the time to appreciate the simple but wonderful parts of everyday life. It always brings a smile to my face to read your posts! xoxo
People seem to forget that real life is inspirational! My most inspirational moments are usually when I am down on my knees begging God for help. Divine inspiration, perhaps?! I try to share those moments on my blog because it can seem so hopeless when you are ill or facing a disability (life usually begins to feel lonely and very uninspirational!).
Thanks for sharing!
You are such an inspiration, Maria, and I love that you are documenting your journey in your blog:)
What a great little moment of magic! I love that picture!
Thanks, Al! I don’t know what I’d do without Hipstamatic:)
