Then Comes the Baby in the Baby Carriage

by Corinne on November 8, 2010

My picture is a little fuzzy (thanks, hubs!), but you get the picture…I’m pregnant! It’s been tough keeping quiet on the world wide web about this big news, but I had some major first trimester jitters. Now that we had our first ultrasound last week, I’m feeling a lot more relaxed about the little one.

I’ve been a very lucky mama-to-be so far (go ahead, curse me). Only a few weeks of mild morning sickness. That was about it for pregnancy woes. My biggest struggle has been stress. There are so many questions at first! Am I eating right? Exercising enough or too much? Taking the best vitamins? I even stressed over stressing too much!

I thought that my first prenatal visit would put me at ease, but not so much. Everything went well and I have a super Midwife, but when we got to the most exciting part, the doppler…we heard nothing. I had built up this moment to be a huge point of relief and we didn’t hear a peep from the little one. I was reassured by my wonderful midwife that it is totally normal not to hear the heartbeat at 10 weeks, but I’m a worrier!

Luckily, the ultrasound couldn’t have been more normal. Except, it was one of the most amazing moments of my life! Steve and I couldn’t stop smiling for the whole 45 minutes. Seeing our tiny kiddo bouncing around, heart beating strong, filled me with joy. It finally started to feel real.

I have so much more to say about my journey so far and our plans for the future, but I’m going to save these thoughts and experiences for future posts! I hope you won’t mind me taking this tangent and bringing you along for the ride:)

Corinne,

I’m so happy for you! I totally missed the official announcement, so I’m a little late to the party. I’m so glad you’ve had a relatively easy 1st trimester. I know when I start a family I’m going to be a huge ball of stress. Just try to remind yourself that you’re not supposed to know everything. It’s a learning experience and you’ll continue to grow (not only in tummy size). I know relaxing is easier said than done, but I hope that you can find some quiet.

When/if things slow down a bit, if you want to grab a bite, let me know. I’m around and would love to catch up. I’m also a design nut – and would love to come with on a shopping trip to decorate! I’ve recently been pining over all the children’s books from my past at thrift stores, too. I’ll have to pick a few up for you guys the next time I’m there.

xoxo
